On Wednesday 3rd July 2019 from 5.30pm, Haverfordwest Mayor and Admiral of the Port, Councillor Mrs Sue Murray will host the civic tradition of the Beating of the Bounds river festival.

The Beating of the Bounds is an annual service which witnesses the Mayor of the town and the Admiral of the Port of Haverfordwest travelling in a water-borne procession to the White Stone at the town’s riverside boundary to exercise the rights of fishery.

The ceremony’s roots go back to the medieval times when parishes reaffirmed their boundaries by processing round them and stopping to beat each boundary mark and to pray for protection and blessings for the land.

In a flotilla of small craft, The Mayor, Sheriff and other Pembrokeshire Mayors and dignitaries will head downstream to secure the bounds for another year, before returning for festivities and presentations on the quayside by the Bristol Trader.

Free entertainment provided by Clown Owain John Roach, Glancleddau Dancers and Pure West Radio.

All are welcome at the quayside with any spaces on the boats being offered out to those within the crowd.

See below for photos from last year’s ceremony.
