On Sunday 23rd July 2017 from 5.30pm, Haverfordwest Mayor and Admiral of the Port, Councillor Alan Buckfield will host the civic tradition of the Beating of the Bounds, as part of the town’s Festival Week celebrations.

The Beating of the Bounds is an annual service which witnesses the Mayor of the town and the Admiral of the Port of Haverfordwest, travelling in a water-borne procession to the White Stone at the town’s riverside boundary to exercise the rights of fishery.

The ceremony’s roots go back to the medieval times when parishes reaffirmed their boundaries by processing round them and stopping to beat each boundary mark and to pray for protection and blessings for the land.

In a flotilla of small craft, Cllr Buckfield and other Pembrokeshire mayors and dignitaries will head downstream to secure the bounds for another year, before returning for festivities and presentations on the quayside by the Bristol Trader.

All are welcome at the quayside, with free entertainment provided by Little Monsters Balloon Modelling, and Matt Baker from Tiddly Entertainment.
